I produce a line of garden stakes and trellises, and I do studio furniture, though I haven't taken the furniture to any shows. Doug Hart has called us personally on several occasions asking us to participate in this show. When he saw my website he was especially interested in a large 'signature' piece chair at the show. We have gone to a few garden shows to understand them better, and because we like the idea of using odd venues to focus people on our work, but we have only done a few, and *surprise* the first attempts haven't been great for sales. We are worried that his personal attention is not necessarily a sign of how great our work is so much as a sign of need on his part. This is a $600-a-spot show-still a big number for us-and I realize better now that it is in reality a trade show where businesses spend big bucks to gain attention. Heck, we still use our $50 EZUP (not good for sales, I am beginning to think)at our outdoor shows. If I have a question, it is: How do we evaluate a show such as this without access (yet)to an ArtFair Source guide book.
