Shipping large items

We finally got our smaller packages relatively damage proof (switched from UPS to Fedex Ground and damages dropped nearly 80%). Now we are having problems with freight, and since we are trying to move toward more large furniture pieces we are concerned. We've heard of people shipping via moving companies, but our orders are not that large. We don't have forklift facilities. Most times we ship one or two pieces at a time. Building crates is not feasible for a $900 cabinet, but losing it due to "poor packing" (they always call it poor packing when we make a claim) is also not feasible. Any ideas?
