Don't call a gallery -- they have a vested interest here, and it's not in your best interests. Go back and read my response again -- if nothing else, please LOSE the concept of *retail* with regard to your one-offs. You should get your money for the piece no matter where/how it's sold. The price is the price -- period. It is then up to the gallery owner to determine whether or not he/she can buy the piece at your price -- less any discount you might magnanimously offer -- and mark it up enough to make an acceptable profit. It's not your responsibility to hold them to a thiry per cent markup or a fifty per cent markup -- or a hundred per cent markup. As long as you get your price, the rest is up to the retailer. I had gallery owners marking up my knives THREE TIMES! All that ever did was ensure that turnover was low and reorders didn't happen very often. But if that's what the retailer wants to do, so be it. I got my price, so.... As an aside, if there was a gallery across the street willing to make a statement in the line and only keystone it, well then...but that's another story.
