I had a similar experience and called the customer immediately. She had asked me to wait 30 days. Her explanation was that this was the same as Net 30 terms. I told her I did not give Net 30 to new accounts and needed to put the check through immediately. She tried a few more reasons to get out of it, but I held firm and eventually she accepted my decision.

I think the phone contact with the gallery is important. Otherwise the check can bounce and you can mess up their account. Much better to call and give them a heads-up to expect the check going through.

Once in a while a store will run into hard times, but there is no excuse for stringing you along like this. If they don't want COD terms and that is your requirement, then they shouldn't order from you.
