: I did some checking and found that the last two jobs she had, she was fired for stealing. (She neglected to mention those places in her job application.)
No help for you on how to proceed, M.R. Unfortunately, as John said, it may simply not be worth your time & $$ lost, although a lawyer could probably give you much better insight & advice. Usually a consult is free, to find out if it's worth pursuing this.
What caught my eye is that you found out from previous employees about her...er...unfortunate habit....*after* you hired her, in fact, after you *fired* her.
I posted a long thing about checking references thoroughly, then reread your post & realized you only found out about those other positions after the fact. :^) But how did you think to find them? Were there gaps in her employment record? In hindsight, was there *anything* that might have tipped you off that something was not right?
I hope you find a way to resolve this to your satisfaction, or find a way to come to terms with it. It's a tough lesson to learn the hard way, and maybe your only consolation is that your experience will help others to avoid a similar one.
