I too think Marshall McLuhan is useful reading, as well as John Berger, whom I mentioned on TCR. John Berger's new book The Shape of A Pocket is ever-so mildly comforting, and exquisite writing. I'm not finished with it yet - its a good dip-in, dip-out book, and I'm savoring it. Start with Ways of Seeing - take a deep breath from time to time and don't forget to laugh - there is no other way through it.
