: Hi, I just finished a weekend show that I organized with ten other artists.
Hi, new to this board and thought I'd chime in with some comments. I've been part of a small pre-holiday show for several years now. It's usually about 10 women, and we split the work and the expenses. We find someone who will let us use their house, and move all the furniture out and decorate with greenery and lights.
We have live music, for which we have a miniscule budget, but we do lots of networking and allow musicians to sell any of their own artwork or recordings as partial compensation. Each of the artists brings finger food for the weekend - veggies and dip, cookies, nuts, etc., and the very popular warm spiced apple cider.
We do the show Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. Friday evening is usually hugely busy, with some people on their way home from work, others on their way out. We serve wine on Friday night, too, and all dress up a little extra sparkly. We light - agh, I can't think of the name for this - candles in white paper bags with sand in the bottom, lining the walkway to the house.
We get a great response to our mailing list and to signs posted at strategic locations.
Our only problem has been finding a consistent location. This year we'll be in the same place as last year, and it's the first time we're twice in a row somewhere. We're glad for it!
These smaller shows can be a lot of fun, and customers seem to really like the intimate atmosphere (and the wine, and the snacks...).
Good luck with yours,
