What I ended up doing was emailing him back a price that was on the high side of average for the galleries. I said that since he was not located near a gallery he could either buy from me or go through one of my galleries.
He responded back asking why my price was higher than one of my galleries that he called.
I told him that if I competed with my galleries for sales, I wouldn't have galleries (in so many words).
He responded that he admired my loyality, that it was a rare commodity these days. He said he was leaving on a trip but he planned on getting back to me when he got back (maybe, maybe not).
I think I did the right thing here. I feel good about it, at least. I wanted to make sure the underlying principle for making a decision was how would it sound if everyone involved knew all the facts. This was a good presidence for any subsequent situations.
Who knows, I may even get the order!
