Well, I always like to keep things simple. And this means that for me there is a relationship between wholesale and retail prices. Based on costs etc. one establishes a wholesale price that he/she can live with. The retail price is then keystone, i.e., 2X wholesale -- or a little better these days, since it's hard to find a retailer today who merely keystones your work. The extra markup is not really profit. It covers the added costs of doing all those retail shows and the time spent out of the studio -- or in your case the hassle of trying to figure out the proper price, based on all your variables. In the FAQS there are a couple of rants about this.
Brian, I'll be the first one tell you that if your system works for you, then go for it. Sounds a little convoluted and qualitative, but what-ta-hey... art isn't always quantitative.
