: About 3 years ago a group of the local artists got together and had a studio show , a tremendous success, Our mailing list was one of our greatest assets, about 2000 post card were sent , the event lasted two days and we gave a small discount to anyone who brought their postcard with them, from this show we had a larger one the following year also a great success, and than a small co op started, not as successful, one of the problems that we faced was shoplifting, so the artists were stationed through out the home and all merchandise was tagged with GIANT orange tags pinned onto all product and we had one centeral checkout. Bathroom space also presented a problem in the guest host house , the following year we got a porta john. Hope this helps and good luck at your show.

Thanks for the feedback. I apologize for not getting back here sooner. We were in Paris for about 10 days and just got back last week. My head is still spinning! :^)

To date, I've sent out a mailing to my area customers, sent out press releases to five area newspapers, placed a small classified ad in one (although I think next year I'll place some small display ads, stressing the once-a-year thing to avoid zoning issues) and placed extra postcards with info printed on the back at a few strategic stores downtown. My studio is almost thoroughly cleaned (yipee! I can see the floor!) and I have a rough idea how to set up additional display cases--I'll be using my new collapsible display units I bought for big shows last year.

To do yet: buy & prepare refreshments (I have a killer boursin cheese spread recipe that's also inexpensive, will serve veggie crudites and crackers, and serve OJ with cheap champagne and a plain hot cider punch.) Maybe some hard candies, too. I'll probably stake some balloons or some such thing at the street entrance to my studio.

I'm also keeping a notebook of all my preparations & estimated cost, and I'm started calling local artists, asking them if they'd be interested in joining me next year. So far, response is positive! Also, an interesting article in October issue of The Crafts Report, on how such a studio tour ended up with some state funding for tourism. Hmmmm.....!!

Will post back after the weekend and let everyone know how it went.
