tip of the week

Forget about my little survey on the website. I want to tell you about a major study underway this spring to quantify the impact of crafts on the national economy. Spearheaded by the Craft Organization Directors Association (CODA), funded by major corporations as well as by contributions throughout the crafts community, and managed by HandMade in America, PO Box 2089, Asheville, NC 28802, this is the first serious attempt to get our hands around this animal we call arts & crafts. Projected cost for this effort is a whooping $150,000 -- but well worth it.

The survey will be advertised this spring in the national crafts media, pull-out survey forms will be made available in The Craft Report and elsewhere, and you'll probably get one in the mail. And don't be surprised to have someone phone you for this information, if they don't feel they can reach you any other way.

Fill it out and send it back! Or go to www.cbr.appstate.edu and complete it online.

Initial results will be made available in the first quarter of 2001, and I personally feel that we'll all be pleasantly surprised at how vibrant and robust the crafts community really is. Please participate!
